At ‘Central’ we want to make it possible for everybody to be able to enter fully into worship by providing a variety of worship styles and experiences.
On most Sunday mornings we provide simultaneous morning services (see below) interspersed with around eight ‘Joint Worship’ services throughout the year. This pattern was adopted in January 2009 after a consultation and an 18 month trial of ‘experiments in worship’ .
Sunday evening services are usually a mixture of hymns, songs, readings, prayers and a sermon.
Most of our services are led by our minister or Local Preachers. Others are led by ministers or preachers from other churches. Our Worship Leaders may assist the minister or local preacher.
Sunday morning worship in the Chapel builds on the typical late 20th Century Methodist Worship pattern of ‘Worship and Word’, led by ministers or Local Preachers, incorporating hymns and songs (usually accompanied by the organ), bible readings and prayers with a sermon or address providing teaching or challenge to the congregation.
Sunday morning worship in the hall is more informal than most services in the Methodist tradition. Led by a worship team of Local Preachers, Worship Leaders, Children’s Workers and the minister it uses songs (usually accompanied by a small band), video, meditation, games, drama, creative crafts and discussion to explore the bible and Christian life themes.
